check it out in the top navigation, the little blog site and maybe, just maybe, the music itself. First release is a recording that originated in my basement studio in 1993. Yikes!
Thanks to Jeff Carvalho for pointing this video out.
This 64 minute film runs through the 1st, 2nd and barely the 3rd wave of techno pioneers all interviewed about how the music evolved at the time. Cool insights into the relations of the original ‘3’, how the scene evolved and how things got a little ugly when success began to take over in Europe. If you remotely love Detroit techno, then you owe it to yourself to get a little more history from the men who wrote the grooves.
Meant to post this up a while ago. but, forgot too.
Here’s a single on Tirk Records out of the UK I picked up earlier this year.
They produced a live in studio performance of the track.
Just sounds great, and I felt like I should share.
The track’s sound is a nice fusion of ‘IDM’, Electro type sounds with some Funky to Drum & Bass bits on the live drums. There’s also beautiful grungy dubbed out tape delay splashes.
Found these clips while trying to search for some ‘Nu Disco’ blogs about the artists and this ‘scene’ where modern artists are kicking out retro sounding jams, be it originals or ‘re-edits’.
The vids feature interviews with artists Duncan who’s 1/2 of Mock & Toof, DJ Stephen of Aeroplane/Eskimo Recordings, Lindstrom from Norway and Steve Kotey of Chicken Lips/Bizarre Inc. It’s interesting how some still pray to the vinyl and others have moved on. But what I found most interesting is that the ‘scene’ more or less some say has grown specifically because of the use of the web. Blogs & Social Networks being the distribution networks but are still Die Hard enough to press up a few hundred to a couple of thousand on vinyl.
So, I’m trying to kick this bottle of Cabernet while the Fam was fast asleep and I was listening to iTunes when by chance, my old 80’s MegaMix Volume set came up. Damn.. Shite sounded good. It seemed like a good as time as any to repost and relive the days of past, turning another year older and all today.
